End Uses

Wool is a very versatile fibre - it can be used to produce anything from luxurious clothing and performance sportswear to homeware and linens.

Knits
Australian Merino wool is used to produce soft, luxurious and classical knitwear. New processing technologies have been adopted with the help of Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), to further improve the softness of knitted products. Some of these technologies include Soft Lambswool Merino, Ultra-light Merino, Soft Classical Merino and Aqua Merino.

Woven
Woven fabrics are used to produce a wide range of products such as sheets and suits and with continued research by AWI into improving woven fabrics the uses for Merino wool are expanding. New technologies include the Shower Clean Suit, the first wool non-iron suit that can be washed under a normal shower stream, Merino Linen, which is light weight, crease resistant, durable and versatile, Merino La Mode, Merino Fashion Effects and Natural Blends.

Active
Australian Merino wool is the natural solution for sport and performance wear. It delivers ultimate comfort and durability covering a wide range of pursuits from cycling jerseys and mountaineering fleeces to wetsuit linings, tennis and golf wear.

Merino Active technologies include: classic – a transeasonal and comfortable, natural easy care properties and cool touch. Performance – garments take only hours to dry, lightweight and care for the skin whilst remaining soft and comfortable. Ultimate – extremely durable, absorb moisture, breath easier and provide better protection overall.

Interiors
Australian Merino wool is used for a range of interior decorator items such as carpets, rugs, bedding and furnishing fabrics.

Wool fibres trap millions of microscopic pockets of air, when wool is used in bedding it is this air that keeps us warm during the coldest of winter nights. In summer, wool’s natural temperature regulating properties take over, giving unparalleled comfort.

Wool is the most naturally flame resistant fibre. Woolmark and Woolmark Blend carpets are renowned for their outstanding performance not only because of their appearance retention and durability, but also because of their natural safety features. Wool fabrics will stand up to years of everyday family wear and tear and still bounce back. They will maintain a clean and ‘as new’ appearance for much longer than other fibre type fabrics.

Upholstery is more exposed to greasy soiling because of the frequent handling it receives, especially on the arms of chairs. Wool’s ability to resist soiling and shed soil during cleaning allows wool fabrics to retain their appearance when others become matted and dirty.
