Farm Biosecurity

Biosecurity is about managing risk to prevent the introduction of pests and diseases onto your property. Keeping pests and diseases out is very important as they can have negative impacts on livestock productivity, farm income, land value, animal welfare and export markets.

An initiative of Animal Health Australia of which WPA is a member is the Protect Australian Livestock Campaign, particularly its new website. The website is designed to help producers secure their property against pests and disease and offers a number of tools to help assess the current risks on-farm.

The principles and practices will help protect livestock from the emergency animal diseases as well as the pests and diseases that are more common to Australian livestock.

The sheep and goat industries have also developed their own Biosecurity Plan to reduce the risk of introducing infectious diseases onto your property as well as reducing the risk of spread of disease on-farm.
