WoolProducers were thrilled to be involved in an event held in Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam on 11 April. The Australian Chamber of Commerce (AusCham) hosted the collaborative function showcasing the multifaceted opportunities for Australian wool within Vietnam's dynamic textile sector.
Held at the Sofitel Saigon Plaza Hotel, this event was a joint effort between AusCham, WoolProducers Australia, Michell Wool, and Eqwools, and was an opportunity to highlight wool’s versatility to over 120 supply chain attendees including major apparel brands.
WoolProducers Australia, CEO, Jo Hall said, “WoolProducers were extremely proud to be involved in this event and exposing a new market to the possibilities of Australian wool”.
The function, opened by Emma McDonald, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for Vietnam and Cambodia, attendees heard of the potential of Australian wool, which has evolved far beyond its traditional applications. As processing innovations continue to redefine its versatility, wool is recognised as a sustainable technical fibre, opening doors to a wide array of uses that cater to diverse consumer markets.
Participants heard from industry leaders, including representatives from AusCham, WoolProducers Australia, Deakin University, Michell Wool, and Eqwools.
A highlight of the event was a presentation from Eqwools, not only speaking about an innovative wool/cotton blend but also incorporating an interactive experience through FibreTrace which embeds traceable ID’s into raw fibres.
Ms Hall said, “The presentations highlighted the need for a fresh perspective on wool, unveiling exciting prospects for Australian woolgrowers and their integration into the Vietnamese textile landscape.”
AusCham expressed gratitude to Austrade for their generous sponsorship, which played a pivotal role in facilitating this event.
In addition to the enlightening presentations, guests enjoyed a culinary experience that celebrated Australian flavours. Meat and Livestock Australia provided premium Australian lamb, expertly prepared by the skilled chefs at the Sofitel Saigon Plaza Hotel. The evening was further enhanced with premium Australian wines from Wirra Wirra Vineyards, offering a true taste of Australia.
Ms Hall said, “As we navigate the future of textile markets, this event underscores the importance of collaboration and innovation in harnessing the full potential of Australian wool, positioning it as a key player in the vibrant Vietnamese textile market.”
The event was the culmination of a week-long Australian and New Zealand delegation, comprising of representatives from WoolProducers, Michell Wools, Eqwools, Wool Works NZ, Fox and Lillie, and AusCham touring Vietnam exploring opportunities for wool.
